Anne Arundel County Response & Status Report
On July 9, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to a 911 call at Empire Towers - 7310 Ritchie Highway. First responders arrived to find the parking garage beneath the privately owned, 10-story office building had been compromised during active and unpermitted construction work. Out of an abundance of caution, first responders evacuated 100 occupants from the facility, with no reported injuries.
On October 22, 2026, following the successful completion of Phase 2 of the stabilization work, the Department of Inspections & Permits conducted its inspection onsite and reviewed the inspection reports and engineer's certification to determine that the building is stabilized and the 150-foot perimeter can be lifted.
The county is coordinating with the Maryland State Highway Administration to remove the road barricades so that normal traffic flow can resume. Empire Towers representatives are coordinating with their contractors to reroute the fencing so neighboring businesses may access their buildings. This work is expected to be completed by Monday.
At this time, Empire Towers and the private parking garage remain closed to public access. The building owner and management company will continue to provide updates to impacted individuals.
