The Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management is seeking input for the 2025 update of the county’s Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP); a comprehensive plan that identifies the types of hazards affecting the community and the steps that can be taken to reduce potential risk to life and property. In response to the impacts of natural and man-made hazards on county residents, businesses, and visitors, the HMP update will aim to identify mitigation projects and actions to create a more resilient community.
The purpose of the 2025 update is to:
- Build community resilience that educates and prepares residents for the types of hazards facing our communities;
- Identify capabilities and resource needs to meet the changing hazards and conditions affecting the community;
- Increase the County’s ability to rapidly recover from disasters; and
- Reduce damages and costs from disasters through enhancements of at-risk critical infrastructure, and adoption of national standards for building codes and construction in designated flood zones and other high-hazard areas.
“We can’t create an effective hazard mitigation plan without the help of our residents, community members, workers, and businesses,” said Preeti Emrick, Director of the Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management. She urges community members to participate in the 2025 HMP update by providing feedback to ensure the plan accurately captures the hazards and concerns facing our different communities. Director Emrick firmly believes that “by working together, we can make Anne Arundel County more resilient to disasters.”
