Overview
Broad Creek Park is a 91 acre natural area park west of Annapolis, Maryland, situated on Broad Creek, a tributary of the South River. Approximately 5 miles of natural surface trails are open to hikers, runners, nature lovers, and pets on leashes.
In 2023 Arundel Rivers Federation completed a floodplain reconnection and stream restoration project here at Broad Creek Park. This restoration technique aims to slow, spread, and sink water rushing through the floodplain through installation of clay plugs, thousands of native trees, shrubs, grasses, and flowers, and intentionally lain fallen trees and woody debris. This project filters nutrient pollution through vegetation and traps sediment while also creating high-value habitat. The result? Cooler, cleaner water carrying less pollution to our rivers at a slower, stable pace.
