Reserve Officer Unit
The Anne Arundel County Police Department Reserve Officer Unit is an intense, demanding but rewarding volunteer assignment requiring a commitment of at least 16 hours of service each month, including two special events. The program is a cost-effective method designed to increase the efficiency of the sworn patrol officer by keeping them available to answer calls for service that require law enforcement authority.
The Reserve Officer is not compensated monetarily, is not authorized to carry weapons, and has no vested arrest authority from this program.
The Reserve Officer performs a wide variety of support services to both the police officer on the street and the citizens of Anne Arundel County. Selected candidates receive free uniforms, professional training and equipment to fulfill their official duties.
Our Reserve Officers perform a wide range of duties, including directing traffic, identifying abandoned vehicles, investigating roadway hazards, patrolling shopping centers and neighborhoods, perform courier duties, supplementing the School Crossing Guard Program, issuing parking tickets for handicapped and fire lane parking violations and other non-emergency activities.
