The Board of Appeals operates independently from both the legislative and executive branches. The County Council appoints the seven Board members to four-year terms.
The Board renders final decisions on appeals related to zonings, licenses, permits, and executive, administrative and ajudicatory orders. Appellants of decisions who are not satisfied with the decision of the Board may subsequently pursue their case in Circuit Court.
The Board may choose to close a portion of a meeting as authorized by the General Provisions Article Section 3-305(b) of the Open Meetings Act.
