Annapolis, MD (December 5, 2024) – Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman announced that the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded Anne Arundel County the prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, marking the sixth consecutive award for budgets prepared under his administration. This recognition reflects the county’s commitment to excellence in governmental budgeting and its adherence to the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and effectiveness.
The award, which is a significant achievement for the county, demonstrates compliance with nationally recognized guidelines that evaluate how well a budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications tool. To receive this honor, the county’s budget was rigorously assessed and deemed "proficient" in all four categories and in 14 mandatory criteria.
“Our government works best when we earn the trust of our residents by demonstrating fiscal responsibility and transparency,” said County Executive Steuart Pittman. “This award recognizes the consistent hard work of our budget team and reflects our commitment to delivering the services and investments that make our county stronger.”
The GFOA award program includes more than 1,700 participants from across North America. Award recipients are recognized as leaders in setting the standard for high-quality budgeting, serving as examples for other governments striving for excellence.
“I am extremely proud of our budget team,” said Budget Officer Chris Trumbauer. “Receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is a validation not only of how we present the annual budget, but also of the process County Executive Pittman has established to collaborate and share budget information with the County Council, the Auditor, and the public. We will always strive to continue that work in future budgets.”
