On Friday, October 15th the Department of Recreation and Parks, the Friends of Anne Arundel County Trails, neighbors, friends and relatives of Ed Parker and his late wife, Jean, came together to unveil and open the brand new rest stop, named in their honor and located at the terminus of the Broadneck Trail.
This picturesque rest area will mark the western terminus of the Broadneck Trail when completed. Mr. Parker, a Navy veteran and longtime Arnold resident, is especially proud of his volunteer efforts. Ed helped lobby for the Broadneck Trail and has served on the Friends of Anne Arundel County Trails for many years, where he received the Trailblazer Award in 2014. After the first section of the Broadneck Trail was completed in 2012, he helped create the Segree Rest Area by Broadneck Library. His wife Jean, also an active volunteer, passed away in 2007.
I had the pleasure of presenting the council citation to Mr. Parker and personally thank him for the perseverance and determination that made this moment possible.
It was truly an honor to be present for the unveiling of the new rest stop, made possible by the late Mrs. Parker and Mr. Ed Parker.
