Internship Description:
This internship is an extension of academic instruction and provides the opportunity to turn classroom instruction into practical application in the workplace. The intern will draw upon the knowledge gained through their college coursework in order to perform the principal assignment and/or projects of this internship.
Main Purpose of Internship:
Under the supervision of the Mentor (Personnel Analyst), this internship will learn and assist the County’s Personnel Classification and Compensation Unit. The Intern will assist with desk audits, class studies, job description development, compensation analysis, market data surveys and reports.

Human Resource Management, Classification & Compensation Practice, Recruitment and Retention
Describe the Intern's principal learning assignments and/or projects. What will the Intern learn about, be exposed to, or assist with?
They will assist in projects involving the review and update of current job classes to determine market changes in compensation practices and work methodologies. The intern will learn and perform basic desk audits, and respond to classification/compensation surveys generated by other private and public employers. Assist in the review and development of job descriptions. Assist in the creation and research of new class titles. Learn to apply point factor quantitative evaluation system and analysis in classification. Research market compensation data, and provide reports.
Describe what the Intern will achieve through this experience:
The intern will gain hands-on experience in a specialized area of Human Resources. Learn the HR policies and procedures in a government setting. Gain professional experience partnering with departments to achieve business goals, specifically in relation to compensation and classification.
