Volunteer Mission & Vision
Mission
The mission is to provide accessible volunteer opportunities at parks and facilities for people to engage in public service while giving back to their community and enjoying the outdoors. Volunteer opportunities span leadership, recreation, parks, environmental stewardship, and cultural and historical conservation.
Vision
The vision for the volunteer program is to provide sustainable engagements and foster relationships with diverse user groups, public and private schools, for-profit and non-profit agencies, and individual contributions to recreation programs and parks.

Check out our volunteer opportunities below.
Our youth volunteer programs are unpaid positions designed to allow middle and high-school-aged youth to volunteer and gain work experience in careers working with children. The nominal fee includes job training, a camp shirt, field trip participation, and the option to ride the bus for daily transportation (only for Mayo Beach location). Service-learning Certificates are mailed at the end of the Summer. This is a first come, first serve program, and you will be interviewed for the position. Must commit to a minimum of 1 two-week session.
Note: A fee is not paid until acceptance into the program is finalized.
Counselor In Training
Students entering 8th grade in the Fall up to age 15 may apply for the Counselor In Training (CIT) Program. Mature youth will gain experience learning leadership, work-based life skills, and working with youth in our neighborhood school-based Summer Fun Center camp programs and Quiet Water Day Camp program.
Volunteer Summer Serve Leadership Challenge
Students entering 7th grade in the Fall up to age 15 may apply. Mature youth gain volunteer leadership experience in a structured environment. These participants will be allowed to volunteer at the Adaptive Day Camp (Mayo Beach Park), work with youth with disabilities, and learn leadership and other important life skills.

Background Check is required for adults (18 years and older) who want to volunteer with Department of Recreation and Parks youth athletics, programs and activities.
